Atlanta Opera Ball

We were very honored to create the stunning décor for the fabulous Opera Ball last month.  The Atlanta Opera Ball began its 31st Season  On October 2nd and opened its season with the  staple of romantic opera repertoire, La bohème. In snowy Paris, six young penniless artists are full of idealism and beauty, but they soon encounter the harsh realities of life. Therefore, our fabulous event designer, Amy Saltzman, interpreted this years Ball into a Bohemian Parisian setting at the St. Regis.  Overall, the ballroom and stage looked magnificent (or should I say Magnifico in Italian!).  A Legendary Event was thrilled to support such a significant cultural event in our great city of Atlanta!!

Holiday Party Advice from Tony Conway

Dear Professor Bruce:

I own a small printing company, and for 10 years we have given a fabulous holiday party. Sales are down this year, but we still want to entertain, thank our clients and network for new business. How can we give a reasonable party and still get our brand out there? Our yearly party is something everyone has looked forward to in the past. We're concerned that if we don't do it this year, people will think we are not doing well or we don't appreciate their business.

Answer:

Since you have entertained yearly and created such a special tradition at your company with this holiday party, I don't recommend canceling the party this year. There are many ways to adjust the budget and give holiday parties and corporate events that keep your brand alive and well.
Tony Conway, Founder of A Legendary Event, has some good advice:
-- Give a party that makes a difference. You can do an event on a smaller scale at your company. Change your party focus to giving to a worthwhile cause and keep it simple. Perhaps a customer or community member has been touched by illness or some other hardship. Ask everyone to bring a book for a children's hospital, cans for a hunger drive or something else purposeful. Serve "just desserts" this year to sweeten the lives of others.
-- Think quality vs. quantity. Review and scale down your guest list and focus on quality. There are probably many people on the list who have not referred to your business or people who should no longer be on the list. Reducing the numbers can help you better budget any event.
-- Make it memorable. Add a theme to your party. Since you're a printer, incorporate your overruns. Decorate the tables with all the printing samples you've done and celebrate your 10 years of printing. Proudly display your work and focus on what you've done for clients in a creative way. From table cards to table toppers, centerpieces and more, your printing pieces should be integrated into your decor. It will save money and promote what you do.
-- Be creative. Instead of throwing a cocktail party this year, think about an afternoon picnic or something more casual. Picnics are popular and can even be indoors and are value-driven. We're seeing parties that used to be sit-down dinners instead be light fare and appetizers. You don't have to serve a feast. Your guests will feast their eyes on whatever you do, but keep your legend alive and party on!

Tony's "Tips from the Pros" featured in current issue of Delta Sky Magazine

If you're flying this Thanksgiving season, be sure to check out some of Tony's Recession-Busting Tips featured in the current issue of Delta Sky Magazine. Instead of a sit-down dinner, Tony suggests inviting friends over for a low key "game night" where one couple brings the wine, one brings the game, and one brings the dessert. This gives the host a chance to pick up a wonderful wood-roasted gourmet pizza or to try his or her own hand at pizza-dough making. He also recommends incorporating a multitude of candles to help set the mood and suggests offering a signature drink in lieu of going to the expense of a fully stocked bar. http://deltaskymag.delta.com/

New Julia Child Film and Legendary's Kaleidoscope Menu at Phipps Plaza

We're so excited to be hosting the Julie & Julia Premier this Wednesday at Phipps Plaza. Our Executive Chef Lincoln Stevens appropriately created a Julia Child-inspired menu including Hors d'oeuvres like Vichyssoise and Soup au Pistou and entree selections such as Bouillabaisse de Poulet and Filet de Boeuf Poele. Of course no respectable French feast would be complete without some traditional French sauces, so rest assured, our guests will have plenty of saucy-selections to choose from including creamy Sauce Bechamel and Beurre au Citron. Desserts will be none other than a divine selection of delicate French Pastries. All will be served in our award-winning Kaleidoscope buffet style. If you haven't seen our chefs "perform" their Kaleidoscope Menu, then you're in for a real treat.

If you'd like to check out the movie trailer before the movie's official August 7th release simply click on the link below. This is a Nora Ephron film (writer and directed When Harry Met Sally among many other great films) so it's likely to be a great big hit.

Gala Salutes "A New Day Dawning" at the Atlanta Botanical Garden

With the opening of new gardens and facilities at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, what better theme for the 2009 Garden of Eden Ball than “Sunrise: A New Day Dawns at the Garden”?

The 28th annual event, the Garden’s largest benefit, will be held Saturday evening, September 26 on the Great Lawn in a large tented ballroom surrounded by several gigantic bronze sculptures by British artist Henry Moore on display in the current exhibition, Moore in America. The expansion is funded by a New Seasons Capital Campaign that has raised more than $45 million under the leadership of Jane and Dameron Black, this year’s honorary ball chairs.

The event kicks off at 7 p.m. with cocktails in the Levy Parterre, followed by a three-course dinner under the tent. Tony Conway’s full service catering company A Legendary Event will provide the menu again this year under the direction of Executive Chef Lincoln Stevens. Stevens’ menu last year featured lemon poached shrimp, petite demitasse of heirloom tomato gazpacho and Parmesan basil tuile to start; horseradish-crusted grouper and Kobe steak, smoked gouda and goat cheese mornay, truffled gremolata risotto and saffron-braised squash and red carrots as the main entree; and ended with a pomegranate mousse dome for the ladies and a milk chocolate mousse tart for the gentlemen. Multiple courses of sweet & savory haute cuisine are slated for this year’s menu. “This year is sure to top last year’s dinner working with Honorary Gala Chairs Jane and Dameron Black,” states Conway.

Drawing more than 450 guests annually, the Garden of Eden Ball supports the Garden’s mission to develop and maintain plant collections for display, education, conservation and enjoyment. For ticket information, contact Jennifer Wyrick at jwyrick@atlantabotanicalgarden.org.
